Chicken Gravy Recipe

Learn how to make the BEST chicken gravy without drippings! OR, easily adapt this recipe to include them. Combined with a secret ingredient and simple seasonings, you'll have homemade gravy on the table in minutes.


PREP TIME: 5 minutes

COOK TIME: 10 minutes

TOTAL TIME: 15 minutes

SERVINGS: 4 servings


INGREDIENTS:


2 cups Chicken Broth

1 Chicken Bouillon Cube or 1 teaspoon Better Than Bouillon

1 teaspoon Low Sodium Soy Sauce, you can't taste it, but it enhances the flavor

1 teaspoon Onion Powder

1/2 teaspoon Garlic Powder

1/4 teaspoon Dried Thyme

1/4 teaspoon Dried Sage

1/4 cup COLD Water

3 tablespoons Corn Starch

1 COLD Unsalted Butter


DIRECTIONS:


1. Add the chicken broth, soy sauce, bouillon, and seasonings to a medium pot.

2. Combine the COLD water and corn starch in a small bowl with a lid. Shake to combine, or whisk to combine.

3. Bring gravy to a boil and whisk in the corn starch mixture. Reduce heat to medium low. Continue to whisk to ensure that it blends in smoothly.

4. Let it gently simmer until its of desired thickness.

Remove from heat. Swirl in one tablespoon COLD butter just before serving. This adds a silky, velvety finish.


NOTES:


1. IF USING DRIPPINGS: Measure out your drippings and add enough chicken broth to make 2 cups. Chicken bouillon my not be needed if the drippings are being used, taste first and add if necessary.

2. SODIUM PREFERENCE: You may want to consider using reduced sodium chicken broth and bouillon if preferred.

3. USING FRESH SEASONINGS: If you prefer to use fresh seasonings, add them toward the end of the cooking process and double the amount.

4. OPTIONAL INGREDIENT ADDITIONS: Sauteed onions, shallots, and/or mushrooms make a great addition to gravy.
