Skillet Fried Cabbage with Crispy Bacon

A crispy, savory delicious side dish that is low carb or keto.

PREP TIME: 10 minutes

COOK TIME: 30 minutes

TOTAL TIME: 40 minutes

YIELD: 8 servings

INGREDIENTS:

1 small head Cabbage, roughly chopped

1 pack Bacon, diced

1 Yellow Onion, diced

3 Garlic Cloves, minced

1 teaspoon Salt

1 teaspoon Ground Black Pepper

1/2 teaspoon Crushed Red Pepper Flakes, if desired

A few dashes Frank's Red Hot, if desired

2 tablespoon Olive Oil

4 tablespoons Unsalted Butter

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Place the bacon, olive oil and unsalted butter into a large skillet, preferably cast iron, and heat to medium-high. Allow the butter to melt completely and incorporate with the olive oil. Once the oil/butter combination begins to sizzle add the diced yellow onion. Cook until translucent. Add the minced garlic and cook, stirring constantly for about 1 minute.

2. Place the chopped cabbage into the skillet and stir thoroughly. Add in the salt, pepper and red pepper flakes if using. Stir again. Cover with a lid and allow to simmer, stirring occasionally.

3. About 5 minutes before cooking has finished, add in the Franks Red Hot, if desired.

4. Continue cooking, stirring occasionally, until the cabbage is cooked to crisp tender.

5. Once cooked through, serve warm and enjoy!
