Turmeric Rice

This colorful and flavorful turmeric rice is a fantastic side dish you can serve with a variety of mains. Perfect for a tasty and easy weeknight dinner!

PREP TIMES: 2 minutes

COOK TIME: 13 minutes

TOTAL TIME: 15 minutes

SERVINGS: 4 servings

INGREDIENTS:

Splash of Vegetable Oil or Olive Oil

1 small onion, minced

1 cup Basmati Rice

1 1/2 cups Water

1 teaspoon Turmeric

1/2 teaspoon Paprika

1/2 teaspoon Salt

1/2 teaspoon Pepper

INSTRUCTIONS:

1. Start by heating up a splash of vegetable oil or olive oil in a pot.

2. Add the minced onion, turmeric, paprika, salt and pepper and saute for about 30 seconds, or until fragrant.

3. Add the rice to the pot, and stir to coat the grains completely in the seasoning.

4. Add water to the pot, cover with a lid and bring to a boil on high heat.

5. As soon as the rice is boiling, remove it from the heat and keep it covered for about 1--15 minutes, or until all the liquid has absorbed.

6. The rice grains absorb the water and finishes cooking when it's off the heat. Make sure to keep the steam and heat in the pot by not removing the lid until the 15 minutes are up.

7. Give the rice a stir with a fork to make it fluffy, then serve.

NOTES:

**Leave the lid on the rice for the suggested time. The rice will be cooked by the steam in the pot, and removing the lid will free the steam, which could cause the rice not to cook thoroughly.

**If you use another type of rice instead of Basmati, you should check the package instructions to gauge the correct rice to water ratio.
